Some people make a living out of it, but if you already have a good site, you may not want to talk about this stuff.
Controversial topics are all over the web and the newspapers. They are always the cover and some people spend their whole lives searching for such content.
This content is great to attract visitors but only if you are going to start a blog just about it. If you are going to make posts about controversial things on your established blog, you might not get that many visitors because they will start to think your blog is not so serious.
Controversial topics should be left to blogs that are only controversial.
A good example of controversial topics and political scandals, celebrities who are drunk all the time, controversial science, religious topics and more.
Talking about these subjects will get your audience very divided and some people are very sensitive to such topics.
Unless you make it all on a separated blog or site with little connection to your already established one, you are not going to keep a reasonable amount loyal visitors.
Be particularly careful when you talk about religious topics. Some people believe in God so blind they can fly the entire world just to slap you on the face, much like a Chinese man stabbed another to death when the other stole a sword in an online game.
Controversial topics will attract the most controversial personalities as readers, and sometimes fierce enemies.i
