Bukisa Vs. Triond

A view from a person who is somewhat experienced with both sites where a person can write to get paid.

I joined Triond in January 2008, but didn’t really get rolling by summer, or even early fall. I joined Bukisa in October 2008, I am writing this in Dec of 2008. I feel I have enough experience on either to give you some facts.

When I joined Bukisa I did not immediately rush out to recruit others to join, in fact it was a full month before I sent out one and only one friend request. That person did not sign up. In recent weeks my Triond Inbox has been flooded with requests from Triond members for me to join them on Bukisa. Most of the people sending the requests are not only new to Bukisa, but new to Triond. As such, they neither have the experience nor knowledge to recommend one compared to the other.

Bukisa pays you per hit on your articles, but you only get paid once per hit from any computer, thus you cannot gain money by repeatedly visiting your own site. Fair enough, I imagine Triond is the same. What is more to note, and the key to all these “Sign up” requests” is the fact that Bukisa pays you when people you sign up, write and start making money. A sort of pyramid scheme, but legal. As such, people are eagerly trying to get as many people to sign up as they can.

In the last week, I too sent out some requests, not random ones, I only sent requests to people who wrote me asking how to make more money, and such. I had 6 people join, only of which 2 have actually written anything.

  1. One of the driving factors causing people to write for Bukisa was the lure of more money. I can attest that on December 1 2008, Bukisa lowered their pay point.

  2. I can also attest that different Triond publishing sites pay different amounts, 1000 hits on “Authspot” is not going to make as much money as 1000 hits on one of their other sites.

  3. If what you write on Triond is not making you rich, the same stuff on a different site, is not going to make you any richer.

  4. Bukisa is for informative, or “how to” articles only. They do not want your poems.

  5. Bukisa does not seem to have the internal networking system, meaning you cannot send messages to each other.

  6. Yes, you can copy your Triond stuff word for word onto Bukisa, but this is not professional, and as I said above unless it is making you a lot of money on Triond, there is no point.

  7. Triond seems to promote our stuff very well. I believe they submit to search engines, I have not seen the same on Bukisa yet.

  8. It is not an “either, or” situation, you can write on both, or even some of the other writting sites.

  9. As with anything, promotion is the KEY to success. If you do not promote your own things how do you expect it to be found? Using social networking sites is the key to any greater success. Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Twitter, etc. Promoting your own stuff, and your own stuff only is NOT an effective way to get fans on any promotion system, you must also support other works as well.

  10. If you are going to sign up in Bukisa, and I am not trying to discourage anyone from doing so, make sure you sign up beneath somebody who will promote you. If a person is doing well here on Triond it is because they have learned the art of good writing and good promotions, and surely will promote your “good” articles.  Signing up under a newbie might not mean they will work for you at all.

  11. By having multiple sites, eg Scienceray, Gomestic, etc, Triond is more professional at this time.

Bukisa and Triond are not the only writing sites in the world, there are many others, Hubpages, being one. Using one does not mean you cannot use others. Remember it is extra income, if you think you are going to retire to writing solely by writing on the Internet for one site alone, think again.

I prefer to think of writing mainly as a way to spread information, ideas, and facts.  Making a few dollars is great, because it helps pay for my Internet connection, even if it is only Dial up, for now, but spreading knowledge, or sharing pictures, is also a great goal to keep in mind.

Very sound advice. Bukisa for me is an unknown really, but I must say from what I have seen I prefer Triond. I have had a lot of very tiresome spam emails from people wanting me to sign up to Bukisa and yes, mostly Triond newbies looking to make a quick buck off my back. Well, I guess you know what they can do!

This article is a great contribution to the current debate!

Well written. Bukisa is new and noone knows how is going to be? Has anyone here been paid by Bukisa?

Good article. Bukisa indeed seems to be the “hype” of the moment. You can submit poetry by now, publishing in other languages (Dutch, French,…) is very easy – with Triond, you have to be very patient! -, they’re not declining as often as Triond (for reasons that are not always very clear)… But, I agree, Triond has a more “professional” touch!

I’m not a newbie, but I’m not an expert either, and I also prefer Triond so far. I joined Bukisa not too long ago due to the flood of messages to my inbox. I think Bukisa has some good ideas, but they should have worked on it a little more before releasing it to hopeful writers. Like other people have mentioned, the site is buggy and difficult to navigate. On the other hand, I do like their referral program and their open encouragement of feedback. I plan on writing for both, and possibly even Hubpages now that I’m aware of it.

I have been writing for four or five sites and have not been submitting as much to Triond lately but had seen questions about Bukisa on another site. Thank you for informing me. If what you earn on Bukisa is highly dependent upon how many people you recruit or if someone else has to promote your work for any money to be made, it’s not for me. I’m ghostwriting articles and making $3.50 to $11.20 per article on one site; on another, I get paid $15 per article. I don’t have to put effort into promotion on those sites and can focus on my writing.

Great article! I too have been flooded with Bukisa requests. While I haven’t signed up I did go “look around” It did not strike me as being as professional as Triond. I am still debating on whether or not I want to join. For now I am content with Triond.

I too, have been hit with these numerous invitations to join “Bukisa” but I am quite happy with Triond. Beside, I’m not to keen on the idea of trusting someone else to promote my work or even profit off it!

I have said this before, In order to become successful you have to put in the leg work!

    Love the article.

You convinced me. If Triond is good enough for RJ Evans, Darlene McFarlane, Ruby Hawk, and Debra Mann, to mention just a few (sorry, my fingers are too tired to complete the list), it is certainly good enough for me. Besides, “how to” articles are not my cup of green or herbal tea. I prefer beer.

I have not been paid by Bukisa, yet, but expect a payment in January, and will let you know if or if not I get paid.
I am not totally disappointed in it, and dont want to give that illusion, but I dont think its an either or situation, a person who wants to can write for both.
If anyone wants to sign up, this is my link

    http://www.bukisa.com/join/438

however in no way do I want to tell people its supper great or anything like some of the requests I am getting from new people who just joined a few days ago.. I don’t beleive that is the right way to address anything like this.
I DO NOT want anyone to leave Triond fully, just if somebody wants to try something “EXTRA”

I posted similar discussion in MyLot and I must agree with all the things you’ve said here. To be honest, Bukisa is not really that good if compared to Triond. The money is not that much and it is still in Beta, which means it is not as popular as Triond or even HubPages.

I too have received a lot of invitations to join Bukisa and have recently signed up to give it a try. I will let everyone know how it works out in the longrun. I am not currently recruiting as I feel it too important to first get yourself established with a site first, before promoting it as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Although, my first choice to publish will be Triond, because I like the fact that the pages are much more professional looking and uncluttered. The fact, that Triond is already established and the support from the Triond staff has been fast and friendly. Plus, I enjoy the other Triond writers as well, is a real big plus in Triond’s favor.

Great article and keep us posted on your success.

I was waiting for another article like this! Well done. The grass IS NOT always greener on the other side. There are pros and cons to all of these sites. Bottom line… NO site is the perfect site. I agree, promote your OWN work as much as you can through whatever means necessary. And if you are allowed duel submissions then do that as well.
Here is the deal folks…BIG MONEY from writing comes from print magazines and web magazines. Hone your skills and submit to these media sources. That’s when you make good money. Is it easy! Absolutely NOT! Your technique needs to be sound and polished. Even if you find a magazine that pays $25 for an article, do you realize how many Triond hits you need to make $25? Spend time fine-tuning your skills as well as find ways to network your pieces.

Very informative. Although, I must admit, I am getting a bit peeved at all the people I don’t even know sending me emails on a daily basis to join Bukisa. I like Triond because of the community. I can’t get that elsewhere. I do freelance because it pays the bills and it will save up for my kids college. I have a system that works, but I can’t appreciate people I don’t even know trying to solicit me. It’s annoying. So I think this kind of article needs to get out there to inform people on the benefits of both worlds, and the do’s and dont’s.

Thank you so much I found this very interesting and informative.
Yes, Ive been encouraged to go to Busika but I like Triond better and will stay here.

Yes I see there are a lot of well tuned writers here.

I also wish everyone well in their endeavors.

If anyone wants to I wrote an article about Frederick Larson who came up with a theory for the Bethlehem Star if anyone is interested in reading it and going to his sight.

Anyone who might feel gloomy right now I may have some interesting poetry to that might give you a cup of cheer.

I feel comfortable here and I hope my skills get better with time like many here.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND to everyone’s ENTREPENURIAL SPIRIT ALL THE WAY.

I have always said this is the best place to get your feet wet. The writers are supportive as well as Triond staff. They always answer my questions, and we have the ability to socialize.

I wrote Bukisa about that and they did respond that they are working on that. I have not spoken to anyone who has been paid there yet, but it is not set up so that you can socialize with other writers.

My eHow earnings and Triond earnings are about neck and neck, but unlike Triond, I do not get staff support there either. Another point for Triond. Triond gets my vote again.

    Have a blessed Christmas.

    Hello Everyone – I have found even a better site – it’s oDesk.com
It’s a place where you can place an advertisment for your skills as a writer ( they require technical, documentary and software writers ) but they also want people with great Inglish – Writers are in big demand.

Try it – I am still checking it out – but the potential is amazing. I find Bukisa to be less professional but I seem to be earning faster.

Yes, thanks for the good article. I have signed recently at the invitation of a well established wroter on Triond, but once I signed up, I couldn’t get in. It welcomes me after sign on, but kicks me out almost immediately. No problems at all like that with Triond. Also, I would have to say the people here have been the absolute greatest.

I think this is an excellent comparative piece. I too am writing for both sites and have yet to form a complete opinion on bukisa. They are definitely green and need some work, but I’m sure triond was not perfect in the beginning and is certainly not perfect now either. I do prefer triond for the community as well, but the idea of being paid better is definitely quite attractive. Perhaps someday, someone will be the writer’s dream site. :)

    Good info B, thanks!
I recently found out about Bukisa from one of you, and I decided to give it a go by registering under Icy’s network there. Today I started my first 3 articles – 2 published immediately, and the other one put on hold having been chosen for review (this is done at random) but surprisingly it only took only maybe 5 or 6 hours, then it went live too. I like that!

Being on its Beta version, I immediately noticed problems with bukisa like some of you have mentioned here. Earlier, I already got two emails from my readers complaining that they registered (a must if you want to comment) so that they can comment on my two articles but it kept hanging that they had to give up trying. Not nice! Another thing, I also noticed that the Search function button is not that friendly. You can only search for the article content but not the contributor’s name (or username.)

On the positive note, I was surprised that in just about two hours, my first article (of the 3) immediately earned few cents. ;) I thought, wow!

I have only started writing seriously for Triond last August but I haven’t the chance to really promote myself enough to become a “Hot User” because I’m extremely committed to other dot coms where I have more responsibilities as either a feature writer or contracted writer, etc. Will see how it goes this new year.

It would be interesting if my 3 articles at Bukisa will compete with my many non-moving articles here at Triond. ;) So far the best thing that happened to me here at Triond are new friendships formed, and as always, I love Triond’s affiliate networking.

    Best regards,
    Tel

Bukisa, for its innate unwieldiness, is still an exploration for me, even now going into my fourth month. I did finally receive a payout this month which was nice.

I have no real problems if anyone posts their ‘referrer #’ in response to a question about earning more, or other publishing sites. It can get into tedium though when peeps that have far less writing experience seem to swarm upon anyone that lands a ‘hot content’ article. Every time I got a successful article going, I would receive a dozen ‘invitations’ to this wonderful site, -as if I had never heard of it before. :-(
But one person PM’d me with respect, asked if I was a member and if not, would I consider joining using his referrer #. He explained the site, made it clear that he would receive ‘uplevel earnings’ if I signed (small though they be.) I was so impressed with the candor of this invitation that I joined as his downlevel, and have published many articles.

I have had several people since join in my downlevel. That is nice. I get to read their works first, and we’re friends. Its really no worse than ‘friending’ people here in Triond.

Yes I was also asked to go to Bukisa but know that I am not the best person in promotion and the social networking. I mostly just enjoy to write and put it out there and if I get a bit of money that is also nice. I’m glad to have read your article because it helps me to make up my mind rather than having to go and find out that it is just another networking site. I want to go on a site also to read interesting work from other people. Triond is a great site for this.

I love how you’ve set the facts straight because I joined Bukisa by my self but didn’t start posting anything on it really. I have like a 100 stuff on Triond and I can’t be bothered transferring them to Bukisa. I’ve wanted to know if Bukisa is good or not because people seem to love it but I feel comfortable in Triond because it is familiar territory. To be honest, it isn’t the money that is exciting me because if you post your work on every online paid writing site on the internet, you a never going to earn enough to make you a decent living. A money you earn is just a graph of how good you are at writing, I think. For me I want a good portfolio that I can show to universities for my applications and they will like it and I think Triond makes a good profile page that is a very good portfolio too. Good piece of honest unbiased writing.

I am going to try this Bukisa site, I am new to Trioned I have only been on it for a month and have only made 18 cents. I write on the Helium site which I think takes some beating, they pay far better than any other writing site that I have come across. if you are a good writer on Helium you can make $600 or more, they also pay upfront payments for articles this means write 100 articles and the least upfront payment you get is $100 it just depends on how many writing stars a writer has. then there are ratings that people do on your writing 3 clicks and you get a cent, on my articles I used to get at least $1 a day,far better than the 18 cents on Trioned. Then there are the comps but you have to be careful because there are many cheats that enter, but you can win $60 for coming 1st $40 for 2nd $30 for 3rd, and then there are the marketplace writing that you can do if chosen you can earn anything from $25 to $50 it soon mounts up.

I’ll have to admit that Triond has a better sense of community than Bukisa.

Bukisa has its advantages as well.
