Build It They Will Read It: Top 25 Article Directories by Alexa Rank

A guide to help writers gain veiwership of articles.

Writing articles is a fun experience, nevertheless, if you want to make money or get as many pageviews as possible its going to take extra effort. Unfortunately, it’s a time consuming effort, especially for beginners.

Building an audience first depends on good well written articles.  Once you have a few articles and are surprised that you are not making the internet millions, the realization creeps in that writers have to go outside of their online publisher and promote the articles they have written.

The first task is to make friends at the online publisher where your content is published. It’s also wise to read their work and comment it on it.

Social networking such as Twitter, StumbleUpon, Facebook, has become mainstream in our society. The networking offers the writer an easy outlet to post links to his/her work. The more you take advantage of the networking system the more dividends it’s going to pay.

I have a set-up that if I post on Twitter it automatically post on Facebook. If I post on Digg it will automatically post on Facebook and Twitter. It’s not hard to set-up.

It’s also imperative that you build a friendship base at the social networks you are using as well. Twitter is the easiest for me to use but Twitter doesn’t seem to send the pageviews I hope for. Twitter seems more of post your link and post more links and never read the content being posted. Triond has a Top Referring Sites on the Dashboard. This graph will let you know where your readership is coming from; exploit it to your benefit and try to randomly post at other network sites to see if there is interest in your writing. Fine tune it to see if sites like StumbleUpon is working to your benefit. Not all of the social networks will benefit you as a writer. Weed them out and construct a repertoire of the important ones that are sending readers of your articles.

Goggle and Yahoo are two of the heavyweights. I always send my articles to Google and Google reader. Yahoo has Buzz. You never know if one of you article will catch fire, therefore, its just plain good business to use the top dogs.

If you have a website or a blog it is to your advantage to use it as a resource. A well written article linked to your website could end up on page one Google or Yahoo. This link can provide heavy traffic for you. In most cases it provides viewers for many years to come. Literally everyday internet searches are conducted on every subject imaginable. This is not a little town newspaper but the www or World Wide Web.

If you have a website or blog it’s important you promote your blog, which in return promotes your articles. Leaving links and getting linkbaks, trackbacks, and pingbacks are all part of building up the blog or website.I use Yahoo answers because it lets me leave links to all of my websites and blog. I also leave a link to my Triond profile page. You can also start a group on Yahoo for free to help exploit your writing and gain fans.

Do Not Spam- I think that explains itself.

The important issue is to only put your articles on sites where your subject matter has a nice match. This will appeal to more readers and more readers mean more page views and fans. Article Directories are a great way to build up you website or blog. Submitting your articles to these websites means you are doing it for free. It gets a little tricky but you can change your articles to where the gist of the content is still available. What you are hoping to do is get them interesting in your site and writing ability. Always leave a link. If the article directory does not allow you to leave a link take them off your list because they are not doing you justice for the work that was created. Most directories will let you leave at least one link. Take advantage of it.

The drawback is you have to join and submit the article to each directory. This takes time away from writing. But you are building a good foundation and hopefully attracting many fans that appreciate your creation.Working diligently at building an audience for your articles will pay dividends down the road. Many times the articles that you have written a year or so ago will pick up some pageviews adding to your overall earnings. World events many times lead surfers to your articles seeking more information on the subject matter. It greatly increases your page views.

I am sorry I have put two fixes in on this article. It seems Triond can’t get it right.

This explains it all. It’s easy to post on twitter.. you’re right. But you can’t have your articles really ‘promoted’ using it. That’s proven. Many views are in triond, yet some readers seemed to fake reading our articles… That’s a fact!… Harsh reality. hehe.. But I also do that once in a while… hehehe … But most of the time I make sure to read every bit of the writing. I do it for my own advantage also – I gain something – new information to my humble knowledge.

BTW, I also posted my links on forums and it worked!

Great advice. There are many abuses of social media, and it’s very important to establish a good reputation using the guidelines that you provided.
