By fighting Shilaho or hitting at him in one way or another, some people seem to derive some extraordinary pleasure. Why are people still talking about the best articles for the week almost a month after I stopped posting the list? Why can’t those who want Triond to pick the best contact Triond instead of mourning what I stopped running weeks ago?
The list ran every week for almost a year
Several months ago I made a decision to run a weekly column featuring the best articles for the week and believe me; this did not go down well with most of you. While I did my best to read and try to rate articles as a way of stimulating quality content among my friends, many started taking the whole thing the wrong way.

People misunderstood my intentions
Reading the comments of many people on a post that has been written by one Vijayanth reiterates the feeling I had when I stopped posting the best articles for the week. It is clear that most people misunderstood the idea behind the whole thing but couldn’t say it to my face for one reason or another.
Close friends started feeling Triond should do it
Close friends started suggesting that Triond should run the list and that only meant one thing: They were no longer comfortable with my list despite the support they had given me for close to a year. Receiving messages from the respected my friends made me realize that if people wanted Triond to take over the list, it meant they were not comfortable and I had to stop.
Some truths
The bottom line
The fixation with the list makes me wonder what it is about it that hurt anyone. Vijayanth has chosen to write about what he feels about the list almost a month after I stopped posting my top ten articles. Why should he voice disapproval of an exercise that stopped almost a month ago? Why do people start fights with me without any provocation? You have my word everyone, you won’t see another list if it is making so many people lose their sleep.

Well Jimmy, every good hearted effort will have criticism. Don’t worry about it. You got me inspired to write better in hope to make it to the list. And I was really happy when I made it once. You did a great job, Jimmy. Don’t be bogged down by people who don’t appreciate your efforts.
May 2nd, 2011 at 3:09 am
Hey Jimmy, that is his views so ,leave it there. You have done your share,! You have inspired not only the new writers but as well as the seasoned ones. Reading tons of works in a limited time is no big deal. Yes, you may have your flaws so what,, your good intention really counts.
May 2nd, 2011 at 3:17 am
There are bound to be issues…I am new and haven’t read even one of your lists yet though I would say it seems like a terrific idea! And you have brought up some significant points in this article.
Time is a huge constraint for me… to write and read..often I find myself making one word comments..though I do make the effort to at least skim through the article before posting a comment.Comments also show that you’ve visited! but content quality does need to improve here!!
May 2nd, 2011 at 3:34 am
I enjoyed the lists as it gave me a run down of some things to read- I have to admit that I that I don’t read quite as often as I should, and tend only to stick to reading a small group of peoples work unless the title lures me in. The writing quality needs to improve on the site- I know mine aren’t perfect, but I’m working on that all the time.
I enjoyed your lists, so would not prefer Triond taking charge of them as they were always good articles/ poems etc. shame others do not feel the same way.
Also hate it when the commenter has not actually read the article! And then someone comes and doe that on this kind of content!
May 2nd, 2011 at 3:36 am
I hope you are not saying about me also, Jimmy as recently on one of your posts I also mentioned why you stop posting the lists, as I have notice you did not post anymore and thought I have missed out something as I did not see the post from you mentioning you are stopping that weekly lists.
On Vijay’s post concerning the weekly list, I commented something also, as I was thinking since it is so sensitive to most people on the “best 10″, so why not “my favourite 10″.
Actually each time I read that weekly post, I always feel excited whether my name was there or not.
The weekly top 10 post is giving tribute to writer friends, why now it become something so unpleasant, I wonder why.
May 2nd, 2011 at 3:54 am
God! There’s so much jealousy in this world! If triond takes charge of making the list of the best articles of the week,I am sure more than half the titles will come to you only…Will they have a problem with that also??!! I just don’t understand why people can’t be happy for the lovely work that others are doing!
May 2nd, 2011 at 4:07 am
I had not seen that article as I have not had time to put into Triond of late but I did just look it up and read it.
I honestly do not see him blaming you Jimmy. He stated that people (certainly not me) asked him to start making a top 10 list. I have to wonder about that.
Anyway, I loved your lists. I actually was honoured to be included in one and it really made me happy. I was so excited to be there and again, I thank you for submitting my article in your list that day.
I could only imagine the time it took you to read all the articles and make notes to decide which you liked best. They were of your choosing as it was your list and if people did not like that then tough noogies to them!
I am sorry they have gone but can understand it.
Honestly, I do not know how you find the time to write as much as you do with a young child as well as read and comment on so many articles, much less make a list of the ones you liked best.
We all do our best, ok well maybe not all, there are the obvious few who are here for the wrong reason, but those of us that love writing do do our best to put out good quality articles.
In the end, life is too short and too stressful to worry about the pettiness of others so just do what you do and enjoy it.

I am sorry you feel so many people against you, especially through these lists, which I must admit I always looked forward too and felt honoured when I saw my name. There will always be people who are against what we do on this site, but I think you just need to forget it if you can and do what you enjoy doing. Thank you for all the support you have given me.
May 2nd, 2011 at 4:58 am
Don’t take to heart any such harsh feedbacks, Jimmy. You will still come across tonnes of such disapprovals in future.
You have been doing a wonderful job here on Triond with only good intentions. If people misunderstand, it is their problem and you can’t change them.
So…..listen with one hear those gossips and let go through the other ear.
May 2nd, 2011 at 5:20 am
I always look forward for your best articles of the week. I know you picked it up from the list of articles of your friends that you have read. Sometimes, we must do what we think is good for us rather listening to all crap; what do you say?
May 2nd, 2011 at 5:24 am
good knowledge
May 2nd, 2011 at 5:29 am
I realized some people do not read all the articles. Believe it or not, though, you probably will from my rambling comments, I read every article I comment upon.
You certainly spend a lot of time reading Triond. I am almost positive in some way or another, that you will be rewarded whether you know it or not!

What on earth is going on? Who is this Vijay person and what on earth is going on? We all loved the list and the contest. So did Triond management. I only suggested that we could get badges for your list not that Triond take over. I didn\’t want Triond to judge anything or take over anything.
That is the idea I posted. I told them your name and how happy we were with your execution of the contest. We all loved the list and were greatful for the time you took. What is this? I feel awful that you would think we were unhappy with the list. The devil is a liar! Now people are thinking some were unhappy with your list and you pen this article. Worst yet I seem to be the culprit! How awful! How terrible is this?
Some may have been unhappy because there is always some unhappy person in life. But the majority of us (a large majority loved and looked forward to \’Jimmy\’s List\’.
Please read the suggestion I left in the help center. I gave you glowing praise. This is all wrong what has happened here. I feel now I should not have said a word. I\’m truly sorrow that this has become a sore issue. I apologize to you with all my heart.
Marlene loved the list as well! We wanted Triond to recognize you openly and assign badges. But this was all my idea and I\’m truly sorry for all. You spent time and great care considering our articles.
Your pics introduced us to writers we would never have known about. I met Christine Ramsey, Erin Miller, and Sharif by reading your list
. As you know Erin and I stuck up a great friendship and produced \’ Warrior Women of the Bible\’ for your book publishing company. How valuable is that? Extremely valuable. You are my good friend and have encouraged me here on Triond beyond what I can explain. I finished a body of work sooner than I expected. I\’m joyful! I\’m floored!
You are a major motivator for me and so many others. My views have increased because of your sound, straight from the hip advice on key words. Now I feel as if I have thrown a monkey wrench in the heavenly mix and upset or hurt you. Again, please accept my sincere apology.
May 2nd, 2011 at 6:07 am
I am not angry at you Minister, and neither am I angry at the Love doc. I just felt like expressing my frustration here.
May 2nd, 2011 at 6:14 am
We are damned if we do, and damned if we do not, yes? I sadly agree with your **click, click, click** observation. Shame this has happened.
May 2nd, 2011 at 6:25 am
I think that the list was a good motivation for many writers on Triond. But as you stated in this article that it started to get misunderstood by people and all. Personally to me this series was a great motivation as I had also gained a place in many of them.
And yeah, the no brainer comments are really annoying. After you put in so much hard work in researching and writing on a topic what you get is a comment which sometimes has no meaning and does not relate to the article at all. The perfect example for this is the first comment on this article itself. Your anger is justified. There was a time when I used to improve my quality of writing just to gain a position in your list and I succeeded many times in doing so.
Still I don’t know why people misunderstood the idea. It was a really great initiative by you Sir. I always read the articles that I comment on. If I don’t read the article completely I don’t comment.
Whenever we, the serious writers, write we always aim at making a little difference in people’s mind by either giving them some information or by making a little awareness and all we need is that people should read our stuff and give us a detailed description on whether they liked our stuff, whether they agree with our mindset or not.
And whatever happens Jimmy Shilaho’s works have always been a brand in themselves. So, whatever people say, I will always respect you. All the best Sir and I am with you on the decision of stopping to write the lists.
Sincere regards,
-The forgiver
May 2nd, 2011 at 6:29 am
Well, thank God for a place to express our opinions openly without censorship on Triond. Peace and love! Remember what a famous sports writer said- when your good at what you do 95% of people will say all sorts of things that just aren’t true about you.
May 2nd, 2011 at 6:40 am
I have to say one thing, we can sit down an read many people and all you need is a style and you will notice who is good and who isn’t… I personally do read articles and from the ones that I have read, they are not always people on my list but from the regular writers, I sieve out what I think would be good enough and put them on a list, it helps people have a goal and improve their style of writing… It is more to encourage them not for anything else…. J, I am proud of your attempts to inspire many good writers around and that is one of the reasons why you have so much popularity amongst the readers. Honestly, don’t care about what other people have to say, the original is always the best and you were the first, why are you giving up for the sake of some other person…
Personally, Elephants Walk, Dogs Bark but the elephant doesn’t turn around to kick the dog. Remember the dog could die if it did… Not calling you an elephant though its just a metaphor meaning pay no attention to competition but instead use it as a reason to evolve and make yourself better than the best…
Come on J, don’t do it for money do it for the fact that you are helping many people around…. But your points are justified though, I would love to shoot the Triond Editorial along with you!!! An inefficient bunch I must say!!!
May 2nd, 2011 at 7:06 am
I always read an article till the end. A lot of people complane because they don’t read the whole article.
May 2nd, 2011 at 7:07 am
I am really sorry at the goings on. I haven’t read the said article, but I can say one thing with certainty: many of the same person(s) are unhappy with Triond list also. I remember reading so many articles from people vexed with choices in hot lists. For whatever reason best known to Triond, there are some names there that have remained for months together. But yours was a list, fresh every time. Obviously, nobody can read all the articles of all the people. I am sure you will now find more time to write even better articles and reach and exceed the targets you have.
May 2nd, 2011 at 7:15 am
You innovation here is superb Jimmy-Minister Marlene’s opinion about making your innovation more official within triond circles was a suggestion which i still I feel was vouched in very good faith-we are all quite happy with this innovation so involving triond into this idea would probably make it even more official and grandiose. Right now it is only us, your close network of friends who are into this-making it into a bigger scheme of triond where badges and other accolades would be given to individuals whose articles get rated as the best, would in my view elevate this best weekly article idea into something bigger! I beseech you to take matters easy here man-some of us respect your erstwhile writing skills and especially your passion to help others, let alone read articles of those within your network of friends-no one who knows you, and most of all Minister Marlene can do anything malicious against you here at triond-take my word on this. Best wishes!
May 2nd, 2011 at 7:25 am
Gaby, I can assure you that I have no problem with Triond taking over anything. So long as they don’t ban my account, I will be comfortable doing what I do and that is writing.
May 2nd, 2011 at 8:15 am
Hi, Jimmy,
I respect you as one of the star writers of Triond. I respect you for having your articles on the Hot list almost always.I congratulated you, when you reached that 1000 articles mark.I never expected you would take this simple matter so seriously.
I wish you took this small matter easy.
Ok, now I have to my views.
Dear fellow Triond writers,
I have not said anything against Jimmy in this article.
I have even appreciated him for his efforts to choose the best article every week.
See what I have said in my summary:
“However any Triond writer can rate articles and writers on Triond. This is my opinion. Thanks for reading.”
It clearly says that I don’t have anything against his choosing the best articles.
I just posted my view that it is not easy for an individual writer to choose the best articles as he does not have adequate details. What’s wrong in this?
You think you have the right to choose the best articles of Triond for one year.
You also think you have the right to write President Obama is lying over Osama Bin Lade;s death.
http://socyberty.com/issues/president-obama-is-lying-over-osama-bin-ladens-death/
AGREED.
But why do you think Vijayanths has no writing freedom to tell his views about choosing the Triond best articles of the week.
Triond has 200000 members. All are equal and have equal rights. Jimmy you are one of the popular writers of Triond. But that does not mean no writer should disagree with your views.Triond is a writing site that values writer’s freedom, thanks.
May 2nd, 2011 at 8:18 am
And, this is the article Jimmy is talking about.
http://writinghood.com/online-writing/trionds-top-10-articles-of-the-week/
tell me if there is anything wrong in this?
May 2nd, 2011 at 9:55 am
Jimmy I went back and realized that I did comment on Vijays article. I did not take his article as personal affront to you at all. I just saw it as someone giving an opinion.
He gave HIS opinion. We know already that you pick from a group of articles you read. Someone asked him to make a list and he gave his opinion why HE would not do so. I commented because I thought the reasons he gave for HIMSELF not wanting to do it were good.
May 2nd, 2011 at 10:02 am
Even before reading this article, I could have told you that the majority of people on Triond don\’t read an article. As for the comments, most of them are ridiculous! I have absolute proof of this in the types of comments that I receive. For instance, people always think that whatever I write has to do with me. Not necessarily the case. This site is also lacking professionalism and most of all the articles being published are not quality material. What role does Triond\’s chief operator play here?
There is a problem on this form. Please correct and resubmit.
Error: commenting failed
May 2nd, 2011 at 10:25 am
Hi, Minister Marlene, thanks for your honest comment. This is enough for me. You understood the matter clearly and posted your views here.
I value your comment a lot because I know you are a frank and honest person. I have written about this in one of my articles long ago, that I bet you are not aware of.
You have understood me, hope all others will also do, including Jimmy. thanks Minister Marlene once again.

Dunno what I could say. Probably that this is sad. That list was a good thing in my opinion (despite the fact that I did not make it there very often).

you are right–most people don’t seem to read, and the quality is simply shameful in some cases. The inane comments that reveal or mean nothing are the most common type. I have found a few good writers who consistently create useful content, but many Triond users do no’t seem to be trying to do anything but get more words and articles published; quality does not seem to be the objective.
May 2nd, 2011 at 1:21 pm
Sometimes we just have to let things be and respect people’s opinions. People can never think alike, in particular writer so let it be.

Jimmy I have not been on Triond that long but since I have been on this site your content in my opinion is top notch and you contribute much value to the community.
I personally think the whole best articles of the week was a great idea, because it allowed us to see content written by other writers that we may have overlooked.
It is really unfortunate that some have to spoil it for the rest of us just because they can’t see the benefit to having the list.
As you mentioned they could have easily just started their own lists which probably would have been a good idea too, at least it would have made people actually read more.
All I can say Jimmy is to “just do you” and forget about what other people think. You can not please everyone.
May 2nd, 2011 at 7:39 pm
Everyone’s opinion must be valued and respected here. I have also come up with my own list of good Filipino writers based on the works I’ve read. This is a free marketplace of ideas. Both of you exercised your freedom to express differing opinions through your articles without lashing at each other. I hope you get to patch things up soon in the same manner.
May 2nd, 2011 at 8:30 pm
epic fail on that first comment…sadly, most people are really just after the views and not the content…
May 2nd, 2011 at 10:16 pm
Jimmy, I appreciate your great effort in compiling the list every week. The list introduced me to many writers that I didn’t know, not until I read about them from you. Even though I noticed the list has been stopped, I believe you have your own reason to do so. Regret to hear that the list seems bringing you a lot of annoyance. Hope you feel better the soonest

I really enjoyed your best articles of the week. That being said, I do realize that when you made your choice it was out of the articles which you had read. I enjoy reading and having this list enabled me to look at articles I may not have seen otherwise. If you want to keep up with a best articles of the week list please do.
May 3rd, 2011 at 3:25 pm
Jimmy, how about a “best articles of the week by Andrew Handley” list every week. Don’t let something as petty as friends bring you down!
May 3rd, 2011 at 7:38 pm
The list was a good way to be introduced to new writers. Triond already does a list-it’s called the HotContent, and it measures the best publishers-i.e. those who use up their marketing skills as well as their writing skills.
Why doesn’t one of the poets do a list of the best poetry for the month or something.
Why are people criticizing what they’ve never bothered to try doing?
If everyone on this site was doing things to make the site better, and more interesting, we would have a site that would be a powerful force on the web.
May 3rd, 2011 at 10:05 pm
This is quite a discussion! I have been out for a while and bwa-lah..something’s going wrong here. I have to check out some of the links and accusations and etc. here. Will come back later for the opinion.
May 4th, 2011 at 4:46 am
I took break from Triond for just a month and what has happened! In my opinion, the list should have continued, if and only if Jimmy feels comfortable, as he already is spending too much time in sincerely reading and writing lots of useful content. Everyone will have their own opinions, but it was always nice to see our names in the list. In fact, made many good friends through the list been published, just out of curiosity. What Triond management could not do to highlight the newcomers, Jimmy did! Many people would not have had the guts to dedicate their time in writing articles appreciating others’ work. Honestly, I really enjoyed the Best Articles of the Week entries. May be the thoughts of those who think that winning should earn them more money! It is not always about the money! Please keep up the good work Jimmy, am sure you would come out with some other strategy to appreciate others

I’m not familiar with any of this, but I do know that if you put yourself in the judges seat you are setting yourself up for just this sort of thing.
I mean, if you dont read everything that every single person writes then how can you say these are the best writers, these are the best articles?
May 4th, 2011 at 8:44 am
I always admired your persistence in continuing it; and whatever negatives have been thrown your way, people always feel envious and left out if they don’t make one list or another … ignore them

Jimmy, I applaud the labor you went through. I know the Top 10 articles weren\’t money makers. Just the fact that you found actual merit and quality in sifting through the junk pile was reason enough to read you lists. Lord knows there aren\’t too many that would. Thank you.
May 4th, 2011 at 3:14 pm
It looks to me like people are jealous of what this young man has been doing for the writing community here on Triond so they are trying to cause problems.
But this is what happens when you are good at what you do, people will criticize and try to copy what your doing to get attention.
My advice young man is to keep your head up and push forward, because you are a leader and that is to be praised.
May 4th, 2011 at 4:36 pm
I am sorry, I have been away for quite some time, and I apologize. But I agree totally with you, it is senseless how people actually fight the list. I have indeed seen many people write very, very poor articles, and it just happens that those people write well over 20 articles a day. Coincidence? Nope. I suspect many people also write their article in a foreign language and run it through a translator like Microsoft Translate or Google Translate. Yes, a bunch of them complain about little views. You should never listen to those kinds of people. Ignore them, and listen to the people that you care about.
May 4th, 2011 at 11:12 pm
This list of 60+ positive comments should let you know that the vast majority of your readers liked your best articles list. I looked forward to to as well, and was quite grateful for the hours of reading that you put into making your list every week. I made some new friends by looking up articles that you mentioned. I was also very pleased when I saw my name there now and then.
If you don’t want to do the list because of the time and effort that it took up, you should feel free to move on and do something else. But if you are quitting because you feel that your efforts are not appreciated, I hope that all of these comments will convince you otherwise.
May 5th, 2011 at 4:33 am
Ignore the slaters, Jimmy. We are all entitled to an opinion and everyone has their own mind and idea of what they deem to be the best. In any event it has been a pleasure reading your own idea of what constitutes to be the best articles of the week. Keep writing and posting the good work. Best always.
May 5th, 2011 at 7:49 am
I am new to the site so I can’t say I ever saw your lists, but I can say this. In life people always like to think that somehow you are getting over on them. Somehow, someway, as good as it may seem, you MUST be benefiting from what you’re doing. Instead of worrying about themselves, they worry so much about what you might be making, that this article makes them look silly when you tell them that each one barely made you a nickle.
I’d say keep writing the lists and tell the naysayers to grow up. Last I checked you had to be over 18 to be on this site, and last I checked anyone over 18 with half an ounce of maturity would not be complaining about your lists.

Eh…I’ve been here a couple weeks and the articles in the top content lists are all about the same subjects. All about the benjamins.

I’m new to Triond and I’m not really sure what’s going or what happened. But judging from the comments here, it must really be eventful.
Anyway, I agree with Jimmy’s point on choosing the best articles. Give it some basic parameters starting from grammar down to the topic, you can come up with a viable list of good articles. Now, if the articles in Triond are generally poor, then people behind the site must do something to encourage better quality writing.
I just hope that everything works out well regarding this issue…or am I too naive for this?

Well Jimmy, I think I am a little behind. I have not been as active on triond in a while, but I do enjoy your lists, mostly because I explored some very interesting articles thanks to you. I will miss them, but I understand where you are coming from. Do what you have to do. Sometimes you just need to remove yourself from the poisoned atmosphere. All the best.

Sorry to hear that people did not like or understand your motives for your list of best articles. While I have occasionally disagreed with you on the topic of appropriateness of the “suggested articles you might like” that Triond sticks at the bottom of our articles, I definitely respect your writing and your judgement about article quality. I think you should continue posting as you please.
As to the money issue, we are all here to make money, build recognition of our writing and network with fellow writers, so that is a straw-man argument. Sure, I’d love to see one of my articles on the “hot content” list, but I refuse to write about sex, violence, Dancing with the Stars or Osama bin Laden, so “it ain’t gonna happen.”

Oddly, for as many articles as I read every day and every week, I have to admit that I never bother with the ‘Best Articles of the Week.’ I just figured it was something that I was not a party to and it was not going to either help nor hurt me. But examining this spammer that keeps posting the “Buy addresses-” comment, wtf?! Myself, I’d be deleting those.

I always liked your best articles of the week big brother. I have to side with Minister Marlene on this one. But I liked them and you always chose writers with great quality content. Know that I will still read your articles regardless if you continue your weekly contest or not. You always have both quality and quantity, which is an amazing feat for any writer!

I wish this article gets removed from the highly visible ‘hot content’ list. Probably, Vijayanths’ innocuous, just-my-view opinion generates unnecessary negativity and can demoralise him. I am sure even Jimmy would not want this.

Hey, don’t be so narrow minded.I read the article. Vijayanth says, it’s not easy to choose the best articles accurately. He does not blame you or your best articles. As he says you can’t expect all Trionders to accept your views. Don’t think others can’t disagree with you. You are not Trionds God.
