Author Contest Winner: Announcing the King of Content

After months of anticipation, the author contest has drawn to a close. Which Triond author was winner of King or Queen of Content? Which article had the highest page views?

I recently launched a contest for the Triond author who had the highest page views for a given article. The response was terrific. Many writers entered the contest and submitted their article stats. I was so impressed by the numbers. Article views, in fact, passed the 100,000 mark!

  • First off, congratulations must go out to the authors who pulled in these impressive views. I will be publishing a future article listing the top 10 authors.
  • Second, a big thank you to all the other authors who took time out of their busy schedules to enter the contest. It is my hope that the contest helped to boost traffic to their articles.

While there were a number of close contenders, one author was the winner, making the cut with the highest article views.

The Triond author, winner of the KING of CONTENT is: NELSON DOYLE.

The WINNING ARTICLE was:

Extreme Music: Top 15 Free Music Websites That You Will Want To Visit

This article pulled in an impressive 199,840 views! Wow! Way to go, Nelson.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW WITH NELSON DOYLE

How long have you been writing?

I have been writing off and on for almost 25 years–started out writing for young children, and then later started writing for teenagers and young adults.

My dad is a published children’s book author and when I was around age 13, I wrote an entire series of adventure books based around a dinosaur named “Patches the Dinosaur Detective”. In Junior High, I wrote a 1141 page science fiction novel, which a New York publishing company wanted to publish, but I had to pass the offer up, because my parents wanted me to focus on school first and foremost.

How did you first hear of Triond?

I discovered Triond during a Google search.

How long have you been writing for Triond?

I started publishing at the end of 2007.

What do you like most about Triond?

Wow, there isn’t just one thing–more like a combination of different things, working
all together that make my Triond experience worthwhile.

Triond is by far the best online publisher that I have personally published with–and I
haven’t ever had any negative experience getting paid on time.

The Triond community of writers have by-and-large been the most pleasant and helpful bunch of folks that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with–online or offline. The readers and visitors who invest their valuable time reading our writings at Triond have also been wonderfully supportive.

How did you come up for the idea for the winning article?

Well, the plan was to write an article about a topic that millions of people would be interested
in, an article that would consistently attract new readers and repeat visitors each and every month. This is the type of article that is best suited for my writing style, which is known as “compiling.” I Bring a lot of information into a single place, so that interested readers can then bookmark a single page that contains multiple information sources that they might want to revisit at another time.

Were the page views a surprise?

No, not really. Music is a great subject to write about because there are millions upon
millions of interested music fans around the world that could possibly read the article.

What do you feel made this article so topical?

Music is a topic that often attracts a large audience and just about any good written
articles about music-related topics will be read, possibly by hundreds of thousands of
readers.

Did you do anything different with this article?

Yes. I visited and researched music website suggestions left by my past readers in the
comment sections of other music-related articles I had written. Listening to my
readers has paid off in aces–but it really wasn’t a big surprise, because I
believe that my readers are some of the smartest people in the world.

Did you market the article and, if so, can you share what you did?

Yes. I first waited until some of my readers and fans submitted this article to their
favorite social networks or online community forums, and then I submitted the article to some of my favorite bookmarking networks such as: StumbleUpon, Reddit, Ask and Digg, plus many others. Honestly, the readers have done most of the marketing through the best kind of advertising tool–word-of-mouth.

What advice would you give newer online content writers?

Set realistic goals; write what you know. Learn online marketing techniques, to promote your published work so it has the best chance of succeeding. Don’t give up, because it does take a lot of time and patience to succeed as an Internet content writer. Be nice, while acting like a professional.

What are your writing goals for Triond, if any?

Currently, my writing goal for Triond for this year is to write and publish 300 new articles and reviews. If I meet this goal, then I will aim at my next level of writing goals and write and publish another 200 articles and reviews.

What has given you the courage and faith to become a writer and to experience the level of success you’ve clearly obtained?

I firmly believe that Jesus Christ has given me the abilities and skills that I use in life. It is because of my personal relationship with the Lord that I can overcome any obstacle and succeed over time.

I put faith in Jesus first and foremost and He gives me the courage, strength and wisdom to defeat my failures with successful completion. Honestly, I never quit anything, if I truly believe that I can succeed in the end.

You are an inspiration to everyone, Nelson. Triond authors can look to you as an outstanding example of someone who reaches for greater heights and obtains them, through a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard to make dreams become a reality.

That was great Ms. Athlyn and congrats to Mr. Nelson… You two were my friends… hehehe…

Just a suggestion, would it be possible if you could organize and/or open new contest for great/best writers in different fiels. The criteria should not be based on page views, but on the quality of the content.

    I believe it best matters…

    Thanks and best regards,

    Thanks everyone.

I particularly enjoyed Nelson’s insights and feel we can all benefit from his experience.

Content writing isn’t just writing, as Nelson brought out, but requires a different mindset to achieve long-term success.

I’m asking all Triond writers to show their support for Nelson Doyle, by announcing him as contest winner at their blogs and linking to this article so that others can read about his success.

    Let’s back this hard-working author!

Congratulations Nelson! It would be interesting to know the evaluation criteria. You say ‘king of content’ but cite page views. Shouldn’t it be King of page views?

  • Athlyn Green
    April 15th, 2009 at 11:23 am

    Hi Rana,

While the contest was for the author who had the article with the highest page views, because the contest was highlighting online content writing, I choose to go with King of Content for a title.

Others may choose to hold a contest for creative merit or take a thematic approach, which I would love to see.

Please, everyone, announce this contest at your blogs and help to support Nelson Doyle.

As it is, most online content writers want to see how to increase their page views so that they earn for the many hours they invest.

While writing is most often a creative endeavor, content writers are, for the most part, seeking to grow their income from writing, which, in many cases is determined by their success at getting page views.

Since this was a promotional contest over a paying one, is it really that important to worry about the name of the contest?

While I agree that Nelson is king of page views, I still prefer the sound of King of Content.

    Hi 2tet,

I like the sound of your suggestion. I’ve done editing before and it requires hours of work to read through submissions and give them the attention they deserve. When I did a stint as an editor, I read through submissions up to 5 times to make sure that personal preferences didn’t factor into either rejection or acceptance.

I usually hold one contest each year because my writing schedule is so full but certainly it would be exciting to see more contests at Triond.

    April 16th, 2009 at 1:23 am

Thank you, Athlyn, for this honor.

Currently, I am blushing a bit. As I know that there are many, many more talented and skillful writers on Triond than I. Some of these great writers that I am referring to, are already seen in the comment section in this article.

Please, allow me to share updated view numbers with you and the other readers that may in the near future visit and read your article.

The current page views for “Extreme Music: Top 15 Free Music Websites That You Will Want To Visit” has climbed up to 210,207 page views and averaging around 10,000 page views per month.

This particular article had received a whole heck of a lot of attention and had been Stumbled, Dugg, Reddit and blogged hundreds of times. Not all articles that I write explodes in popularity as this one did and several other articles that I have written and published on Triond. If I expected that all of my articles do so well, then I would have moved on to some other creative field that I am interesting in doing someday. Write. Publish. At this point, popularity and success is out of my hands, because it is the Internet and anything can happen in a click of a mouse.

Thank you everyone, for leaving all of your kindness and warmth in your comment left for me. You guys and gals have no idea, just how much I really do care about each and everyone of you – even if I do not express it enough. I love the Triond community more than anyone could ever know.

    God Bless,

    Nelson Doyle
