A Template to Writing Game Reviews

This template will help you write your own video game reviews.

Below is a template which will guide you in creating a review. You do not have to follow this format, but if you are having trouble writing a review, this will help.

First, you start off with your topic sentence(s).

I had bought Sims 3 because of my love of the previous games in its series. But soon after I bought the game, disappointment flooded my mind.

This should explain why you bought the game and what you were expecting from it. You can also state what you felt after playing it for a while, such as what I did.

Second, you write about how the game started out and how it may have appealed or “not appealed” to you.

The Create-A-Sim mode caught my attention from the start. Many more clothes and outfits are now available, and you now have the ability to plan outfits. In Sims 3, you not only chose your sim’s clothes, age, but you can chose their personality traits. Will your sim be athletic, brave, and flirty, or a hopeless romantic? The combinations are endless!

Be sure to be specific if you liked or disliked something in the game. That way the reader can get the idea that the game will start off boring and become fun or vise versa.

Thirdly, you will explain what the game develops into.

Soon after creating your sim, you are faced with the option of buying a home and getting a job. Your job is based on your traits you have chosen for your sim. An athletic sim will not enjoy being locked in an office for a 9 to 5 workday. After a while your sim starts to grow into a child, teenager, young adult, adult, or elder, and that is when you are able to plan a party and invite sims from the neighborhood to a certain location, such as your house.

Now once again, make sure you thoroughly explain your how you feel about the game, whether its good or bad.

Fourthly, you explain how you felt after you have played the game for a while. This should lead into your ending paragraph and statement.

But after a couple of hours, you will start to get bored. You will notice the game getting laggy, in which case you will have to turn down the quality of the animation and picture. The game will start to get frustrating and it will seem that time has become a complete obstacle in your sim’s life.

Make sure you explain why the game has turned out the way you have wrote it, that way the reader can understand why the game was a complete success or failure.

Lastly, you give your final opinion on the game; if you liked it, or not.

All in all, this game is not worth it. The poor quality and time-consuming lags leave you staring at your computer screen blindly for hours. It is definitely not worth the $60. I would suggest Sims Bustin’ Out instead, especially if you are a first-time player of The Sims.

If you don’t think it’s worth it, explain the faults. If you think it’s worth it, explain the things that made you like it. You can also write other things here, such as bad graphics or laggy features, even if your review is positive towards that game. Not every game is perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and joining the game reviewing community. Good Luck!

Note: this format may not work with all reviewers and games, therefore, this is just an example.
