What About Tattoos

Do the old adages still hold?

There was an article  in the paper a bit ago about a girl who applied for a job at Dorney Park, the big amusement park in our area.  She had the job nailed until she was asked if she had a tattoo.  She has a small one on her neck and even though she wears her hair long, she was denied the position.

Years ago tattoos were a mark of sleaze or something you would see in a freak show.  People were considered low class if they sported tattoos.  That’s not so today.  We went to a wedding in Des Moines, Iowa a few years back…conservative Des Moines.  Each of the bridesmaids had visible tattoos as well as the bride.  They are good people who like tasteful ink.  Three of my children have inked themselves.  I don’t understand it particularly, but what’s the big deal?  Why would a bit of ink keep a person from a job?  Hey, maybe one of my kids could tattoo a fireplace on an arm with my URL: www.qualityfireplacescreens.com.

Depends on where you have the tattoo. I have three smallish tattoos which are in easily coverable positions so that whilst at work I can look professional and respectable. I wouldn’t have got past interview stage if they were on show.

I have a couple of tats, unique and drawn by my sister….
I have them in places that can be covered for work… but I do not understand why it should be a determining factor for employment… I think it is because tats are associated with high risk and impulsivity

Christine how wonderful it is to have you back in the comments box. A wonderful article and I have to say I find nothing wrong with a nice delicate tattoo in the correct place. I have none it has never been one of my things. But someone should not miss out on a job just because of a small tattoo.
    Best Wishes
PS Steve I have to say I do miss Facebook. Awe only kidding glad its gone so thank you Triond.

Its sad at some job interviews individuals are not offered a job because of the tattoos they have on their body.

I’m a 15 year old girl who does not have any tattoos, but i think having a small, easily covered, tattoo should not restrict anyone from getting a job. The company is being biased and unfair. Due to foolish thoughts that this applicant will be unfit to work at your company because they have a tattoo, is irrational.

To each his own is what comes to my mind. While I do not have any tattoos, I believe tastefully and discrete would be good common sense.
