A hardy little flower, that no matter what the weather conditions peeps out to show you that Spring is here.
Today, I looked out and there they were peeking out through the dead and decaying leaves in the garden.
As they drilled their way through countless debris to get to the surface and into the sun, their tender stalks and vibrant colors make you smile to know that they are saying Spring is coming. As the days get warm and the sun is brighter they fill the garden with colors of mauve, purple, yellows and whites. A wonder to see after the harshness of winter blues.
Now, you have the task of separating the old leaves away from the ever so tender flowers. Taking care not to damage, not even one.
These hardy little perennials grow from corms and are found in a wide range of habitats, including woodlands, scrubs and meadows. Found in large areas from coastal and sub alpine area of central and southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle Est, across Central Asia to western China.

These beautiful little flowers are so easy to grow, separate and transplant. I started out with just a couple and each year as they come up I separate and transplant to different parts of my gardens hoping that someday they will fill my gardens with early spring colors that will make me smile.
