Fictional Heroes

Are our Fictional Heroes going to disappear?

We have all heard of the great Sherlock Holmes, and brave Robin Hood, but how many teenagers have actually read about the two famous fictional people. A group of 4 teens were asked if they heard of both Sherlock Holmes and Robin Hood. They all answer yes, but when asked if they had read any of the stories they all said no.

The great Sherlock Holmes was known for his unusual crime solving methods, but a reader could tell you he played violin, and like it or not was addicted to cocaine. Dr. Watson is seen as his lanky assistant, when in fact they are roommates. Dr. Watson got involved with cases because he was intrigued by Sherlock’s unusual behavior. Dr. Watson was an army veteran who got injured in Afghanistan. The brave Robin Hood is known for take from the rich give to the poor, but who knows of Will Scarlet one of Robin Hood’s team. We know of Little John being a very big man, in which it is true that he was quite good at using a quarter-staff.

The excitement may not be as great as a movie, but what are we missing when we do not read all the stories we thank we know about. When in fact there is a whole lot we are missing. So I encourage everyone, not just teenagers, to go out and read a book before, our fiction heroes disappear.

I agree most everyone should read more and they are missing out on a lot by not reading some of the old heroes and not some of the stuff that is on television now.

I think this is very awesome. Keep it up… you could really go far! I am really impressed and glad you are encouraging people to read. Reading is one of the best way to evolve intellectually… and yes to save our fictional heroes.

I agree entirely, and as you said this is not just teenagers. I could point out many adults who have never read any real books. Personally I never read robin hood but I love sherlock homes. Another great book is treasure island, one of my personal favorites.

Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent.
