Apple Cider Vinegar Home Remedies to Keep the Doctor Away

Frequent visits to the doctor can be costly and stressful. Having a family and children to care can especially result in high costs, frequent visits, long waits and hefty prescriptions. If you find doctor’s visits particularly stressful, you may benefit from trying a few natural home remedies for common illnesses – cheaper to make, easy to produce and guaranteed all-round natural goodness for your family.

One particularly handy addition to any household is a batch of apple cider vinegar (ACV), used for centuries as an all-round treatment for a variety of common conditions such as allergies, acid reflux, headaches, yeast infections, skin conditions, cold and flu symptoms, acid reflux, gout and much more.

If you purchase organic ACV, the beneficial properties of organic apples are retained in the vinegar and the double-fermentation process produces life-giving nutrients and enzymes, making ACV the powerhouse of Mother Nature’s natural resources. Not content with working wonders only for people, ACV is also excellent for treating conditions in animals.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Children and Adults

It’s natural for children to become sick more often than adults; their bodies are still building immunity to the world around them and, unlike adults, children spend more time outdoors and socialising with each other. It’s easier for mild ailments to spread amongst children, but luckily most of these can be relieved with a touch of ACV.

The dosage amounts for children and adults needn’t be adjusted too much. There isn’t anything harmful in ACV, but discretion should be taken when giving large amounts to children.

  • Mild symptoms: For mild symptoms in adults and children, such as stomach upset or headaches, mix 2 teaspoons of ACV with 8 oz of water (or juice for children) and drink 3 times a day.
  • Severe or chronic symptoms: For other symptoms, including sore throat, cold and flu symptoms or acid reflux, add 2 tablespoons of ACV to 8 oz of water and juice. Drink 3 times a day to relief symptoms.
  • Weight loss: Apple cider vinegar is used as an aid to weight loss and slimming because its balances sugar levels and subdues craving for unhealthy, sugary snack foods. You can add 2 tablespoons of ACV in 8 oz of water and sip throughout the day to level your blood pressure, control cholesterol and eliminate harmful toxins from the body. Alternatively, add 2 tablespoons of ACV with 2 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice and take after breakfast. To reduce bitterness, consider adding honey to the mix.

Apple Cider Vinegar Remedies for Pets

  • Dogs and Cats: For animals with a poor appetite, add 1 tablespoon to pet feed twice a day for a 50 lb dog, and adjust the dosage accordingly for smaller animals (including cats). For skin irritation or hot spots, place ACV in a spray bottle and apply to skin; if the skin is broken, dilute ACV with an equal amount of water before applying. For pets with itchy or watery eyes, add 1 tablespoon of ACV into pet feed twice a day for a 50 lb dog and adjust dosage for smaller/larger pets.
  • Horses: If a horse is dehydrated or needs to drinks more water for other reasons, pour a cup of ACV into the water barrel. For joint problems, which are common in some horse breeds, add half a cup of ACV to horse feed twice a day.
  • Cows: ACV is an excellent remedy for mastitis in cows and other health benefits. Farmers have been using ACV as an aid for digestion, purifying water, eliminating harmful toxins and supporting the immune system of their farm animals for centuries. Most farmers recommend a dose of 10ml per cow, added to water or cow feed daily to improve general health.

Side Effects of Apple Cider Vinegar

There are no known side effects of apple cider vinegar in children, adults or animals. Any side effects that do occur as positive; skin can appear healthier after use and frequent users of apple cider vinegar have reported a general improved wellness.

If you ever encounter a nagging cough, sore throat or chronic pain, try taking a little dose of apple cider vinegar before visiting your doctor. With no obvious negative side effects, nature’s formidable all-round treatment is certainly a recommended addition to any cupboard.
