Adult Balance

An entry I wrote a couple years ago venting my frustrations with high school. Enjoy.

I’m good at this. No rules. Just talking.

There are some rules to my writing. Not many. There’s always rules. Rules make the world go round.

Or is that love? Or money? Or just plan luck?

It gets old talking about what functions we should all perform on this world. There’s a balance. There has to be balance. There has to exist unsuccess for success to exist. Adults bother us too much. But what am I? Just another lazy teenage kid complaining about my problems, and the amount of work I’m “required “to do. Blah blah blah blah blah. Adults get tired of hearing it, I’m sure. I’m also sure they’re too bitter to change anything. If they went through all the crap as a kid, why would they bother making kids’ lives easier? Is that really what you’re going to do when you’re an adult? Go make kids lives easier?

Really…think about it for one second. The kids who want to be good at life, will be good at life. I guess I’ve discovered that that’s the huge secret of the importance of school until college. School is supposed to teach you how to work. School sorts out the kids who will fail from the kids who want to be successful, and will be successful. Adults say school teaches you how to not be lazy. Lazy kids will not do the work. They will not learn to do the work, by going to school. They will remain lazy, because that’s the person they were either born to be, or who they choose to be.

You could say their fate is sealed.

Someone who has a desire to be great, someone who cannot stand being anything less than someone who someday helps the world out, well, they’re going to work. They’re going to work regardless of anything or place “teaching” them how to work. They’re going to do all their busy work in high school. And it’s all just a waste of time. Instead of an English major taking more classes which apply to his/her field; Writing, Philosophy, Reading, etc., he or she will be stuck getting through the required Science, Spanish, and Math high school classes. Ask any high school graduate if they remember how to ask the time in spanish, twenty years from now. Ask them, assuming they were not a math major, if they know how to graph

y=-1/2sin(-3x).

It’s a basic Trigonometry problem. For the English, or any other major, besides math, was there eve a point wasting time taking this course in high school To forget it’s “valuable” lessons after years of disregard?

Three kinds of people in this world. Lower, Middle, and Upper Class. Without the first two types of people’s existence in this world, the third kind of people can’t function as they do.

Adults are here simply to upset the balance. You just can’t change which class a person will end up being, adults. You can’t. It’s up to the kid.

It’s a lot of wasted time, high school. The most important aspect of it is the one most people scoff at. It’s the small breaks students get in between classes. It’s the dances, and football games, and variety of social events available because of attending high school. Busy work is just annoying as hell. As I said, busy work serves to weed out the lazy people. Homework is a ridiculous concept. We went through a six-hour work day, and, if we are in sports, an eight or even nine hour work day. We are tired. We need time to have life. Now a days, kids who want to get into the best colleges in the country have to work for incredible amounts of their childhood. They don’t get time to experience the most important things in life…the time to make mistakes and have fun. Like I said, people don’t learn to work from school. They work because they want to. People who don’t want to work don’t work. Both kinds of people can be spending their time more productively. People who want to work should be sent to a competitive learning atmosphere suited to their interests and skills, better known as college, as soon as possible. The only school required for them should be the basics. HOW to learn. Then they should be, if they so choose, to be placed in specialized classes suited for them. People who choose not to be educated can be off, finding an average job somewhere. The job experience would help them, they could start earning money, fast, and that may be what they are set to do in life. Who are we to say they are less significant, less of a success in life, when they might be having more fun in their life than we are? I’m going to say that life’s main purpose is to have fun while you’re here. To enjoy it. Obviously, that means many different things for different people. I’d assume I have a better life than a bum. You would, too. It doesn’t mean it’s true. Who enjoys each day more? The bum may not know of any higher living standard than the one he currently lives. Therefore, despite the fact that he does not have material luxuries, or a warm place to sleep at night, he could be incredibly satisfied. Perhaps it was destined for him to have a life lived on the edge. He’s forced to survive every day. Could that not be more satisfying and entertaining than playing Xbox? If he’s more satisfied with his life than we are, does that not mean he’s lived a better life?

Success is all here for the taking. People are meant to be what they are meant to be. We can’t change that. When will adults be done trying?
